Our Business Community

On this page we will be including information of interest to businesses in our community and to residents of the neighbourhood about those businesses. We encourage residents to shop locally whenever possible. It is our goal to increase their shopping options. We will soon have a directory of businesses in the North & South Point Douglas area to assist you in your choices.

For Business Owners:

The Point Douglas Residents Committee is currently conducting an inventory of all businesses in North and South Point Douglas, as part of our mandate of community economic redevelopment for the area.

We would like to make you aware of certain aspects of our redevelopment plan which are relevant and important to area businesses, and to invite your input into the process.

Currently underway or in the works are the following:

North/South Point Douglas Community Survey

We have completed a comprehensive survey of all 850 residences in the community to learn about our population and gather their opinions on how they would like to see their neighbourhood develop. The survey was conducted from April 1st to July 15th, 2008 and over 950 adult residents were interviewed. Community teens and children were interviewed in modified versions of the adult survey. The results of all the surveys are currently being analyzed.

One of the questions we’ve asked is what new businesses and services residents would like to see developed in the community.

We now have that information and will be sharing it with business owners in the community, to give them the first  opportunity to provide those businesses and services which the community desires.  Only after all current business owners have reviewed the information and considered their options, will we look outside the community for further interest in development.

Business Survey

We are currently conducting a survey of local businesses regarding their experience as business owners in the community. We’ll identify issues of concern and work with businesses to address those concerns. We would also be using any positive feedback toward a future marketing and promotions campaign for the community and its businesses.

Business & Services Directory

We are creating a central database of businesses, organizations, agencies and services in our community and will publish that information in a directory specific to the area.  That directory will be included on our website once it is complete.  Advertising opportunities will be available in the directory and on the website if that is desired by the business community.

North/South Point Douglas Website

There will be a section of the website which will feature local businesses and services. If you wish to have a presence on the site, we would welcome your input regarding information and graphics you would like to include. There will be no charge for your listing.

Welcome Neighbour! Program for New Residents

We will be producing a package of gifts and information to welcome new residents to North and South Point Douglas. We have an increasing number of people buying or renting homes and moving into the area, all of whom will need information about products and services available locally.

If you would like to participate in our Welcome Program, you may wish to provide small gifts or product items, coupons or gift certificates from your company to be included in the Welcome package.  The community directory previously mentioned will be part of the package as well.

How You Can Be Involved

We invite you to contact us to set up a time convenient to yourself to discuss how you and your business can participate in the development and growth of our community.

Our office is located at 881 Main Street on the corner of Euclid Avenue and Main Street, across Euclid from California Fruit Market.  We’re open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and would be very pleased to hear from you.
