Age & Opportunity ~
Main Street Senior Centre
1065 Main Street
~ Aileen George: Centre Facilitator, ph 942-7486
Age &
Opportunity Inc. is a social service agency that offers life-enhancing
programs and services to older adults. Through Age & Opportunity’s programs
and services, Main Street Senior Centre helps to support and enhance the
physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual lives of older
persons and actively promote participation in all aspects of community
life. All adults 55+ are welcome.
This
North End location has a strong social aspect to its programming. Cards,
bingo, meetings with presentations and parties are held routinely, as well as
active living programs including carpet bowling and exercise classes; all
having snacks or meals available for a small charge. Age & Opportunity also
provides numerous social service programs such as Safety Aid, legal
services, income tax preparation, housing consultations and counselling.
Many of
our members come from Ukrainian roots but they are by no means the only ethnic
group represented here: everyone with roots here in the oldest neighbourhood in
the city, combined with the desire to revitalize it, are at the heart of our
Centre.
